Galaxia / Galaxy
According to the Greeks, the Milky Way (
or Galaxias) was created by Heracles when he was a baby. Zeus decided to let
his son suckle on his wife Hera when she was asleep. Hera woke up and realized
she was breastfeeding an unknown baby and she pushed him away. Milk spurted
that became the Milky way.
Chaos
In Greek Mythology, Chaos is the state of existence from which the gods first appeared. It is made from earth, air, water, and fire -- the four elements. It is considered to be endless and a complete nothingness.
Sirens
Siren's were dangerous bird-women in Greek Mythology. They lived on an island called Sirenum scopuli. They sang enchanging music to lure seamen to their rocky shores. They were considered the daughters of the river god Achelous. They were represented as birds with large women's heads, bird feathers and feat. Later on they were shown as women with the legs of birds sometimes with wings and soemtimes without. Later on siren's were represented as mermaids with having a fish tail instead of legs. However they were not considered to be sea creatures.
Crows
The term Coronis which means Crow or Raven was also the name of the daughter of Phlegyas, King of the Lapiths and one of Appollo's lovers. She was pregnant with Ascelepius but fell in love with the son of Elatus, Ischys. A crow told Apollo of the affair. Apollo was so enraged that he put a curse upon the crow and scorched it's feathers. He later sent his sister Artemis to kill Coronis.
Coronis in another myth was the daughter of King Coronaeus of Phocis who feld from Posidon. Athena changed her into a crow.
Foxes
In Japanese mythology the Kitsune are a common subject. They are intelligent beings and possess magical abilities. They can assume human form and love to play tricks on others. The Kitsune also can have many tails, up to nine. The more tails they have the older and wiser and more powerful it is. People have been known to make offerings to them as deities because of their power.
Butterfly
In Greek Mythology the word for Butterfly is Psyche, which was the same word for soul. She was also a maiden who was envied by Aprodite and loved by Eros. She was later made immortal by Zeus. In other mythologies they were also said to carry the souls of the dead.
Cats
The Japanese had a cat called a bakeneko, who was a cat with special abilities. They will haunt any household they are kept in. They can also walk on hind legs and change it's shape into that of a human.
